Bull Inn
Greene King rated:2

Picture of Bull Inn

Located in the northern outskirts of Maidstone, not far from the M20 (thankfully out of earshot), the Bull Inn has a lot going for it - notwithstanding a missing "u" on the pub signage at the time of writing. Adjacent to a well-kept green in a quiet village setting, it has a fair amount of outside seating at the front, and a grassed garden to the rear which is large enough to allow children to play. Inside it's reasonably comfortable, vaguely barn-like, with a decent amount of seating, including some leather settees. The staff are attentive and the clientele is fairly well-mannered. A Greene King pub, the selection is solid (and cheap), if unspectacular - we have tasted worse pints of IPA in the capital, and the Ruddles Best on offer isn't bad either. What stops the Bull from scoring more heavily is its "chainy" feel. Nothing at all wrong with tied pubs per se, but this one does feel somewhat overwhelming (it's not just the overly familiar menu either). Greene King are doing a lot right, but we feel that in some of their more old-fashioned pubs, they should be a bit more unobtrusive.
