The Stag Inn

There have been a few incarnations of this Victorian workers inn over the past few years but it seems to have found stability under the present management. This is very much a workers pub from the days when Mentmore Towers was a private estate. There is a small single room bar at the front (with obligatory open fire) and a larger restaurant and cocktail bar at the rear. The pub is often patronised by a good humoured group of regulars from the village and surrounding area drinking the Well and Youngs' real ale, Kirin and Red Stripe lager. Whilst the wine list is quite extensive and of good quality it is disappointing not to see guest ales on the hand pumps, especially as there are some worthy examples in the locality. The same menu of food is available in the bar as well as the restaurant. Outside is a large well maintained garden to the rear, big enough for youngsters to run around in! Seating out the front avails the drinker the ability to watch the world go by and space for occasional troops of Morris dancers to perform. All in all well worth a visit whether you want a cheeky pint or a sit down meal.
