Malt & Hops

Picture of Malt & Hops

Situated in a prime spot on the waterfront in Leith, you'd be forgiven for thinking that the Malt and Hops would be yet another trendy bar for the tourists and wealthier locals - there are plenty of those around here. Thankfully, the Malt and Hops has bucked this trend and is a steadfastly traditional free house. The eight hand pumps offer an ever-changing range of well-kept real ales and if that's not to your liking there's a pretty potent cider and wines and spirits. If you're feeling peckish you can try the stovies, again a refreshing antidote the gastrofare on offer around here. The service is friendly as are the clientele - it's a laid-back sort of place, where you go for a relaxing pint or two and a quiet chat. On a warm summer's evening it's a nice spot to sit outside and watch the sun go down over the docks. We like the Malt and Hops, it's a proper pub and we hope it stays that way - we'll be keeping an eye on what happens when the tram finally connects Leith to Edinburgh city centre.
