King of Denmark

Picture of King of Denmark

Being careful not to take our spell checker's suggestion we'd have to say our favourite King of Denmark was Cnut the Great, or Canute if we stick to safer ground. The 1000-year-old would probably be feeling a bit long in the tooth if he was to visit this pub, which is now aiming to bring in a younger crowd since the owners of Upper Street's Slim Jims took control. As you'd expect from their involvement the jukebox won't disappoint, with a selection of rock classics and plenty more contemporary choices. There's also a piano next to the jukebox, which may or may not offer cheapskates a musical alternative. The main room of the corner-plot pub, which wraps around the bar in an arc, is not heavy on decorative touches but the space works well. An abundance of windows does rather restrict their ability to hang anything on the walls anyway. A smaller side room offers the cosiest spot, especially the two armchairs in front of the fire. Early signs are promising so we hope it can draw enough crowds to become a success.
