Picture of Valiant Trooper

Aldbury is a picture postcard English village. With a duck pond, quaint cottages and a tiny post office it could easily be 1950 here, save for the cars. And any village such as this has to have an olde worlde pub to make the picture complete. Of the two on offer the Valiant Trooper is arguably the more traditional. Tiny doorways, heavy wooden beams and two separate rooms add up to make a genuine and cosy experience. There's an extensive and interesting food menu alongside four ales, two of which were - quite rightly - from the nearby Tring brewery. Tasters were even offered without having to ask, always a good thing. All the staff were attentive and friendly, welcoming to adults and kids alike, with the proprietor making a point of stopping by for a brief chat, which was a nice touch. There seems to be a lot going on, with a regular quiz night, wine club and an afternoon Halloween party, making it a friendly, lively and active village pub. We enjoyed our visit here and will happily return when in the area again.
