The Bollo
On the side-streets of Chiswick, The Bollo certainly blends well into it's pleasant surroundings. Past the attractive exterior, the interior has a distinct pubby look, with some nice original features, wood panels and an area with comfy banquette seating. With a couple of ales to complement the usual lagery suspects and a Wednesday quiz night, this could easily be a successful modern take on the cosy, local's pub. However the omnipresence of food, especially at weekends takes a little of the shine off for us. With many tables reserved and even more with cutlery on them, just coming in for a drink can be an underwhelming experience. In the gastropub galaxy there are innumerable variations and styles to choose from, but for us Bollo veers a little too close to the restaurant end of the spectrum to a be a truly good, honest pub.
